Chapter 167 165. The Clown Turns Out to Be Me
An Han had been studying in this city for over two years now, yet the number of times she’d come to the city center could be counted on one hand.
She had heard of all the city’s attractions, but had never actually visited any of them. She hadn’t even tried much of the local specialty food.
Sitting in the car, An Han almost pressed her face against the window, staring at the bustling traffic outside.
Perhaps because she was alone with Su Peng, her cheeks were slightly flushed. Watching the scenery wasn’t really because she wanted to—it was simply a way to put some distance between herself and Su Peng.
“We’re almost there. There’s still over an hour before the agreed time. Let’s find somewhere to have breakfast first,” Su Peng said.
“Oh~ Is tǔsǔn dòng tasty?” An Han happened to spot a sign for it by the roadside.
Su Peng drove steadily, eyes fixed on the road, the gentle smile at the corner of his mouth unchanged. “You’ve been studying here for two years and you still haven’t tried it?”
“Aren’t there… bugs inside?”
“Yeah, a kind of seafood. It looks like a worm. If you can’t handle that, don’t try it.”
An Han pressed her lips together, brows knitting slightly. She looked conflicted—both timid and curious about what it tasted like.
“You’re driving so slowly,” she complained, glancing at Su Peng. “Even electric scooters are faster than you.”
“There are a lot of people and cars. Slower is safer.”
“More like you got your license and never touched a car again, right?”
Su Peng’s driving was exceptionally steady, his unhurried pace very much like the gentle personality he usually showed.
The car fell quiet for a moment. After some hesitation, Su Peng took the initiative to reveal his dark past. “Back in high school, I liked riding motorcycles and street racing at night…”
“And then in my senior year, I lay in bed for over half a year.”
“……” An Han silently sized him up.
“Otherwise, I would’ve gone abroad to study right after high school. My family probably worried that if I went overseas, I’d mess around and end up getting myself killed.”
The corner of her mouth twitched. No wonder a rich second-generation kid ended up attending such an average university.
Lying in bed for half a year during senior year and still taking the college entrance exam—getting into an undergraduate program was already impressive.
And you really couldn’t tell at all that Su Peng was the thrill-seeking type. On the surface, he looked completely gentle and refined…
An Han suddenly recalled Su Peng’s forceful side, and along with it, that forced kiss.
So his current image was all just an act!
“We’re here. Get out and have breakfast.”
She quickly shook the image of the forced kiss out of her mind, opened the door, and stepped onto the curb.
The moment she got out of the car, she could feel passersby’s gazes converging on her. She instinctively smoothed her skirt, crossed her arms over her chest, feeling a bit uneasy and shy.
Even though she was already a complete girl now, she still wasn’t used to wearing women’s clothes—much less to becoming the center of attention while dressed this way.
If she hadn’t already experienced something similar at the last convention, her face would probably be bright red by now.
Su Peng quickly paid the rental fee, locked the car, stretched, and walked over to her. “What do you want to eat? It’s on me.”
“I’ll pay for myself,” An Han said. She didn’t want to owe him favors over such small things.
If they piled up, it would only become harder to refuse Su Peng’s requests later.
“Then the steak at noon, you’ll also—”
“Fine, you pay!”
An Han lowered her head, shuffled behind Su Peng, trying to use his body to block other people’s gazes.
Su Peng glanced back at her and chuckled. “You weren’t this shy at the convention.”
This skirt was obviously much more conservative than the qipao she wore back then. Even though it was short, there was no risk of exposure at all.
“It’s different.”
At the convention, An Han could even enjoy the attention. But now that she had gained a sensitive attribute, she could vaguely sense those gazes landing on her chest, thighs, and face—and that was something she really couldn’t handle.
She regretted it. She shouldn’t have worn women’s clothes…
Su Peng clearly sensed her unease. After thinking for a moment, he draped an arm over her shoulders, slinging it around her like close buddies.
“?” An Han turned her head to look at him in confusion.
“I’m helping share the attention. If a handsome guy and a beauty stand together, they won’t just stare at you.”
“You just want to take advantage of me!”
“How could that be? This is totally normal buddy-style shoulder hooking,” Su Peng laughed. “Your mind’s just dirty.”
An Han glanced at the arm on her shoulder. If she were still a man, this kind of gesture would indeed be normal. But now she was a girl—even being touched by Su Peng felt like a loss.
“What handsome guy…” she muttered softly, turning her face away from him.
The attention from passersby only made her slightly uneasy, but being this close to Su Peng made her cheeks heat up rapidly.
Clearly, she had no improper thoughts in her mind, yet her body was already reacting—her heartbeat quickened, her breathing grew a bit faster.
Damn system!
Su Peng glanced at her expression and secretly relaxed.
An Han still liked him.
Otherwise, her face wouldn’t flush shyly every time they made contact.
Her occasional coldness was probably just mood swings. And this time, when she heard he was going on a blind date, she had almost immediately chosen to come along—that alone said a lot.
With his arm around An Han’s soft shoulders, breathing in the faint scent of the girl, he led her into a small roadside shop. “Rice noodle paste is okay, right?”
“Mm.”
An Han immediately freed herself from his arm and plopped down into a chair across from him.
Only then did she let out a breath of relief, quickly scanning the menu. “Extra meat!”
“Alright. You should eat more meat—skinny as a stick.”
Hopefully it all goes to her chest.
Su Peng added silently in his mind, then waved over the owner and ordered two bowls of rice noodle paste. After that, he took out his phone to ask his parents for some basic information about the blind date.
To this day, he didn’t even know the girl’s name, let alone have her contact information. He only knew she was a well-off young lady.
An Han waited idly for breakfast, craning her neck to peek at Su Peng’s phone from across the table, but because of the angle, she couldn’t see the screen at all.
So she decisively stood up, sat down next to Su Peng, and brazenly peered at his phone.
At the same time, Su Peng’s parents sent over a photo of the girl.
“Holy shit!” Su Peng hadn’t reacted yet, but An Han exclaimed in shock. “This girl is way too damn pretty!”
“When you’re wearing women’s clothes and not talking, you’re not worse than her,” Su Peng sighed helplessly. “Can you be a bit more ladylike?”
Such a pretty girl, ruined the moment she opened her mouth.
“I swear—what’s it to you?”
An Han leaned in, carefully examining the girl’s photo, clicking her tongue. “If this were my blind date, I’d give myself over immediately. Why bother getting engaged? We could get married tonight.”
“Too bad same-sex marriage isn’t legal here. And if your parents arranged a blind date for you, it’d be a guy.”
She seemed not to hear Su Peng at all, her eyes fixed straight on the photo.
It’s over. Even with makeup and pretty women’s clothes, I still can’t compare to her!
The one who feels inferior… is actually me!
———
If you can’t beat them, there’s nothing to say. But losing while looking ugly—that’s truly hard to watch!
After lying low for half a year, the clown turns out to be me~
