Chapter 229 226. A Long-Awaited New Task

Feb 05, 2026 1,269 words

By the time An Han returned from her grandfather’s house, it was already seven in the evening.

She had expected to face her relatives’ scrutiny, but that entire afternoon, only her grandfather had paid attention to her—and she even got to witness a juicy bit of gossip.

Her relatives didn’t have time to care why she had turned into a girl, nor whether she should be allowed to date freely. Everyone was arguing about the love lives of her cousins… yet after hours of debate, it was still a complete mess.

Those in favor and those against were about equal. The supporters claimed that free love was fine, while the opponents worried that it would bring shame.

“Mom, what do you think about Cousin Wu Hao marrying Cousin Jie?”

An Han asked curiously as she parked her electric scooter at the house entrance.

Her mother answered almost without hesitation: “It’s so embarrassing.”

“This…”

“But if they love each other, we can’t stop them,” she sighed helplessly. “What’s the use of feeling ashamed? Just deal with it.”

In fact, her son turning into a daughter had already embarrassed her greatly. Rumors outside were spreading all sorts of nonsense, painting An Han as if she were some kind of monster.

An Han had been staying home most of the time lately, so she hadn’t heard those rumors firsthand—but she still had daily errands like buying groceries.

Even her pastime of playing mahjong had shifted to playing intense online games on the computer.

“Mom, aren’t cousins forbidden from marrying?” Her little sister was confused all afternoon.

“Their situation is different. Normally, that would be impossible.” When speaking to her sister, her mother’s voice instinctively softened, sometimes even using cute baby talk.

“Then… could I marry my sister?”

An Han slapped the back of her sister’s head: “What are you talking about?”

“I don’t like you anymore!” Her sister ran off into the house.

“That brat!” An Han glared at her and turned to leave the alley. “Mom, I’m going to grab something to eat. I didn’t get enough at Grandpa’s place.”

The dining table had been full of arguments, so she had barely eaten anything.

Her sister, however, remained unfazed, determinedly finishing three full bowls of rice.

“Wait!” Her mother called. “I’m going out. Do you want me to buy anything for you? First, help me bring the scooter inside.”

“You should’ve said so earlier~”

Excited, An Han ran back and helped her mother push the scooter inside. She then asked, “Mom, what are you doing out at night?”

“Going to the supermarket to get milk for your breakfast. The milk at home ran out in just a few days since you came back.”

“And get me two packs of sugar-free cola while you’re at it!”

“Cola isn’t good for you.” Her mother sized An Han up. “And your period has started, right? Drinking cold drinks every day—aren’t you afraid of stomachaches?”

Although An Han hadn’t told her mother the dates of her period, her mother’s experience let her figure it out at a glance.

“I’m fine. My body’s strong.”

Her mother rolled her eyes: “You’ll know the pain in a few years.”

“Nope!” An Han replied. Unless the system suddenly disappeared…

Wait! The system really hadn’t appeared in a while!

An Han startled herself and quickly checked her grandfather’s affection rating for her.

【Grandfather: Affection 67】

Good, the system wasn’t lost.

Her grandfather’s affection wasn’t very high, but even her roommates, who had spent over two years with her, only had ratings of forty or fifty. Given that she hadn’t visited her grandfather much in recent years, this was normal.

After helping her mother push the scooter inside, An Han stretched and walked to the back hall, plopping down on the sofa. She opened her phone and saw four or five unread messages from Su Peng.

They were all trivial, asking whether she had eaten and what she had eaten.

Excited, An Han shared her day’s experiences with Su Peng. What older generations might consider embarrassing, she saw as her cousins being brave. So impressive.

“Sis, you’re chatting with that person again!”

Her little sister’s voice came from the stairs. She ran down and peeked at An Han’s phone.

As a “monitor” of their mother, she wasn’t exactly diligent.

“Get lost!” An Han pulled her foot from her shoe and lightly kicked her sister’s face.

“Let me see! What are you chatting about?”

“He said that if you behave, next time you go to his school, he’ll take you out for a big meal.”

Her sister’s eyes lit up: “A big meal?”

“Steak? One bigger than your face, how about that?”

“Sure!”

“Don’t tell Mom about this, okay?”

“Got it!”

Little kids really are easy to trick.

An Han rubbed her sister’s head in satisfaction, then went back to typing.

Su Peng replied almost instantly, sometimes even before she finished typing a single sentence.

Her little sister sat quietly nearby, her big eyes full of curiosity, occasionally peeking at the phone. Since no sensitive topics were discussed, An Han didn’t mind.

“By the way, sis.”

“What’s up?”

Her sister counted on her fingers: “Dad seems to be coming back in a couple of days.”

Another wave of trouble!

An Han’s heart skipped a beat, but she pretended to be calm and asked without looking up: “How do you know?”

“Auntie told me this afternoon!”

Her uncle, like her father, worked abroad, so they usually returned home together.

“Then let Dad take us out for steak bigger than my face!”

An Han, however, wasn’t as excited as her sister. She rubbed her nose in frustration: “What do you think Dad will do when he sees I’ve become a girl?”

Her sister looked at her and answered without hesitation: “He’ll be happy, right?”

Hopefully…

During this period, she occasionally spoke to her father using a male voice. That once seemingly useless vocal skill actually helped her hide the truth.

An Han’s fear of her father was mostly due to the unknown. Thinking carefully, her father had been a university student over twenty years ago and had been living abroad for years, so perhaps he was open-minded.

“Anyway, he only comes back once or twice a year, sometimes even less…”

An Han hesitated and asked her sister: “Should we agree not to tell Dad about this for now?”

【Option 1: Completely hide the situation from father. Reward: Ideal Wife】

【Option 2: Temporarily hide it, tell within a week. Reward: Reasonable and legitimate transformation explanation】

【Option 3: Tell father directly. Reward: Random attribute points w〜u Yi Qi (8) ba Lin Qi (6) (1)】

Wait! A task for her father appeared, just like before!

An Han’s eyes lit up, but seeing the first task made her immediately feel down.

Does this mean the system has already assessed her recent thought as extremely difficult?

And what’s with the “reward: beautiful wife”? New Arakawa Yui or still Bing Bing?
