Chapter 204 201. Haircut
Later that evening, Su Peng stood downstairs of the apartment building with both hands tucked into his pockets.
He was wearing a white hoodie and jeans. Before heading out, he had deliberately washed his hair once more and carefully cleaned his face with facial cleanser.
Every time he went out with An Han, he tried to make himself look a bit more presentable. But An Han didn’t seem to like men who were overly polished, so he hadn’t used hair gel to fix his hairstyle, nor had he flamboyantly sprayed on any cologne.
As he waited, his thoughts drifted back to the knitted gloves he had given An Han.
Although he was very touched that An Han wore those ugly gloves so happily, Su Peng seriously suspected that An Han was simply showing off his nightmare-inducing craftsmanship.
Thinking positively, maybe she was announcing to the girls in her class that she was already taken?
The large iron gate of the apartment opened, and An Han, dressed in a skirt, poked her head out from the darkness.
That little head suspiciously looked left and right. When her gaze landed on Su Peng, she immediately broke into an excited smile and hurriedly ran out of the gate.
“This place is too secluded. I don’t even dare to go out at night,” she said. “And there are a lot of late-night food stalls nearby. There are always people getting drunk and causing trouble. A couple of days ago, someone was arguing downstairs and woke me up.”
An Han jogged up to Su Peng, lifted her head, and looked at him with her bare, makeup-free face. “Is this outfit okay?”
“It’s pretty good. When did you buy it?”
She was wearing a plaid short skirt on the bottom and a loose white cotton top on the upper body. Because it was autumn and winter, she also had on a layer of black leggings.
Her women’s clothing choices were influenced by both aesthetic preferences and her former male mindset, so she always liked outfits that showed off her legs.
After all, her old “XP” was long legs.
“Last week. I can’t keep using Lin Yi as a tool person every time I want to go out,” An Han replied, but her expression was a bit worried. She touched her cheek and asked, “I didn’t put on makeup—does it feel like something’s missing? Do I look like some kind of cross-dressing pervert?”
When she put on women’s clothes, she worried that traces of masculine features might still linger on her face and that she would be seen as a man.
“You look better without makeup.”
“Really?”
“This outfit would actually be fine for meeting your family too,” Su Peng joked with a smile. “Your sister would definitely say you’re pretty.”
“……”
That nightmare again.
An Han’s expression darkened, and she pretended not to hear what Su Peng said.
Although the sky was already completely dark, it was only seven o’clock. When the two of them took the bus to a nearby commercial street, it happened to be the liveliest time of the evening.
Most of the students were out and about at this hour. The entire street was packed with people, illuminated by bright lanterns and lights.
An Han stayed close to Su Peng’s side, one hand unconsciously clutching the hem of his clothes, her bright eyes scanning the shops and snack stalls on both sides.
Although she had gone out in women’s clothing many times before, being in the middle of a crowd still made her feel a little uneasy and nervous.
It felt as if, with just one careless moment, someone would notice that she used to be male.
“What kind of clothes are you planning to buy?” Su Peng asked.
“Long pants, hoodies—basically slightly masculine women’s clothing. I can’t exactly wear what I’m wearing now to see my family.”
“Then why not just wear men’s clothes?” Su Peng lowered his head, puzzled, and looked at the girl beside him. “And your family doesn’t let you wear skirts?”
No—it was just that she was afraid dressing too femininely would shock them.
An Han found an excuse. “Once it gets colder, leggings won’t be enough anyway. I need to buy a couple of pairs of long pants.”
Her leggings were fleece-lined, so in temperatures of around ten degrees Celsius, her legs didn’t feel cold at all.
Almost pressed up against Su Peng, she could vaguely pick out his unique scent from the messy mix of smells around them. That scent gradually eased her nervousness, filling her with a growing sense of joy and lightness.
Her earlobes warmed, her heartbeat quickened, and something called a sense of security began to fill her heart whenever she got close to Su Peng.
To be honest, An Han seriously wondered whether other girls could feel something similar just by being near a man.
At the very least, she never felt this way around other men.
“There’s a barbershop over there!” An Han tiptoed and pointed toward a storefront not far away. “Perfect timing—I need to get my hair trimmed.”
“Your hair is a bit too messy. Even if you’re growing it out, you still need regular trims.”
She didn’t pay much attention to Su Peng’s comment. She hurried over to the barbershop entrance, peeked inside, and only relaxed after seeing that there weren’t many customers waiting.
She was afraid she’d have to queue for an hour just to get a haircut.
Pushing open the glass door, she followed Su Peng inside. Before the owner at the front desk could ask anything, she spoke up, “A haircut. Just help me trim it a bit—紦厁邻韭ling琦玖儛扒.”
The owner froze for a moment, then immediately called an apprentice over to wash her hair.
“Just trim it a bit,” “cut the bangs to the eyebrows,” “don’t cut too much”—those were the three lines An Han used every time she got a haircut in the past. Not a single one could be omitted, for fear the barber would cut her hair too short.
“How would you like it cut?” the stylist asked.
But now, sitting in the chair and looking at herself in the mirror, An Han didn’t know what to say.
The stylist was examining her messy hairstyle, seemingly considering where to start, while An Han herself wasn’t sure whether cutting her hair back into the old slanted bangs and choppy style would still be appropriate.
“Well… maybe just fix it up a bit?” she answered uncertainly.
“Sure.” Barbers, much like taxi drivers, were notoriously chatty. After just two snips, the stylist couldn’t help himself. “Which school are you from? What’s your major?”
“Want to dye your hair? Our dye and perm package is only 190.”
“……”
An Han kept her mouth firmly shut. As long as she didn’t speak, the stylist couldn’t scam her wallet.
She did feel a bit tempted to dye her hair, but when she thought about how her mother might drag her to dye it black again in a few days, she suppressed the urge.
Su Peng sat idly on the sofa, legs crossed, softly humming along to the music playing in the shop.
He fiddled with his phone in his hands, but his gaze never left An Han.
He wondered how long it would take before An Han’s hair reached her waist.
Jet-black, straight, waist-length hair would definitely suit her face.
Those long legs wrapped in leggings were really nice.
Too bad her chest was still small…
Although he’d noticed that An Han’s bust had grown by another size, at a glance it was probably only around a B-, roughly the average level for an adult Asian woman.
After about forty minutes, An Han finally stood up from the chair.
She leaned toward the mirror and examined her hairstyle from left to right, her brows knitted tightly.
Before the cut, it had been an overgrown, somewhat sloppy male hairstyle. After trimming, however, it had turned into a middle-parted, ear-length women’s short haircut, with the ends slightly curled inward.
It looked quite nice…
But a hairstyle this feminine, appearing in front of her family, appearing in her class…
Wouldn’t it cause quite a stir?
An Han let out a soft sigh, then plopped back down into the chair. “Cut it shorter again… make it more neutral.”
