Chapter 226 223. Dragging Her Sister Along
-
In the afternoon, their mother knocked on An Han’s tightly closed door.
After a moment, a lazy, slightly drowsy soft voice came from inside the room: “What is it~”
“Time to go to your grandfather’s.”
Half-asleep in bed, An Han instantly woke up. Her heart gave a jolt, her eyes widened, and she quickly buried her head in the covers, replying in the same sleepy voice, “So tired… I didn’t sleep well last night~”
“Mom, sister went to bed at eleven last night.”
Her sister’s voice came from outside the door, making An Han want to grab her and shake her.
“Hurry up, it’s time to get up.”
“But I’m so sleepy~”
Just imagining a few familiar relatives sitting around her like an interrogation panel, staring at her now-feminine self, asking about her transformation into a girl and her romantic experiences…
Too terrifying!
Those relatives knew her somewhat, but since high school and college, they had lost touch and grown a bit distant. In their eyes, she was still the slightly mischievous little boy.
Just the thought of it made An Han want to immediately take a bus back to school and escape everything she was about to face. Even with her mother and sister, she had the urge to confess everything, but in front of those relatives, all she could think about was running away.
She glanced at the window, but there were security bars. The key must be with her mother—escape was impossible.
“An Han?”
Probably because she had been quiet for a while, her mother knocked a few more times. The knocking made her heart tremble, and in the end, she could only ask her mother in a pitiful tone, “I’m so sleepy… can’t I go today? How about tomorrow~”
“Tomorrow, then the day after, and then you keep postponing!”
Her mother clearly knew her tricks.
“But I really don’t want to go…”
“If you skip this, at the New Year’s gathering you’ll have to see dozens of relatives…”
“Mom! Aunties and uncles are fine! Why do I have to talk to those relatives I don’t even know?”
“Then…”
“I just won’t go to the New Year’s gathering! Can’t I hide from them?”
Most of the relatives she would meet had seen her before, but she had barely spoken to them and didn’t even know how to address them properly.
“You won’t go for the New Year, but you have to go this time. Just consider it an early visit to your grandfather.”
If it were just her grandfather, An Han wouldn’t be thinking of running away.
She reluctantly agreed. She wished she had stayed at school during the winter break or found a job nearby.
Sighing, An Han slowly got up to get dressed. “Wait a moment, I’ll change clothes.”
Her wardrobe was full of women’s clothes, but fortunately, there were some black jackets and wide-leg pants that leaned toward a more neutral style. Dressing a bit more masculine would give her more confidence in front of relatives, just like when traveling with her mother.
After dawdling for a while, An Han finally stepped out of her room in black clothes and pants.
Her mother, already impatient, was downstairs preparing gifts for her grandfather. Only her sister was waiting outside.
“Sis, why aren’t you wearing a skirt?”
“I’ll wear one if you wear one.” An Han shot her a glance.
“Then forget it! I’m not suited for skirts, they don’t look good on me!”
She didn’t know how her mother had taught her, but her sister’s taste leaned more masculine. Previously, when her mother had tried to put her in a skirt, she had thrown a fit, and it was eventually abandoned.
An Han took her sister down the stairs, but suddenly had a bad feeling.
Sure enough, when she appeared in front of her mother, her mother frowned and looked her up and down. “Why do you look like a boy?”
“I…”
“Go change into something prettier. Wearing all black is ugly.”
“Bu…t…”
“Don’t you have several skirts? They all look nice.”
An Han blushed and shook her head. “It’s freezing—why wear skirts in winter?”
“Don’t you have fleece leggings?” Her mother looked at her, puzzled. “You can wear them at school, why are you afraid of the cold at home?”
Her sister egged her on from the side: “Sis! Skirts look nice!”
Then why the heck don’t you wear one yourself!
An Han grabbed her sister’s arm and pointed at her face, saying to her mother: “If she wears one, I’ll wear one!”
“Still comparing yourself with your sister at your age.” Her mother complained verbally, but her eyes brightened as she looked at her sister.
Her sister froze and took a timid step back. “I don’t like skirts! I don’t have any skirts either!”
“Then let’s buy some outside. The commercial street is right there anyway,” An Han encouraged, enjoying the spectacle.
She felt a rush of satisfaction—finally, someone was dragged into her predicament.
Her mother stopped worrying about An Han’s outfit and crouched down to persuade her sister.
“Girls should wear skirts.”
“What’s wrong with skirts?”
“If you wear one, your sister will wear one too. Be good~”
“Look, your sister wore skirts even when she used to be a boy.”
Don’t drag me into this!
An Han stood aside, watching. Though she was curious to see her sister in a skirt, part of her hoped the sister would resist as much as possible.
Who knows why her mother was so obsessed with skirts. Perhaps because her sister resisted skirts, most of the girls’ clothes her mother bought before were skirts. Thankfully, it was winter; if it were summer, probably all of them would be skirts.
“Alright! An Han, go upstairs and change into a skirt! I’ll take your sister to buy two sets.” Her mother finally persuaded her sister, standing up to look at the absent-minded An Han.
“Wear a short skirt and put on some makeup!”
An Han glared at her sister. “Mom, make her wear a short skirt too!”
This kid would rather die than wear skirts after elementary school! Today, she even wore girls’ clothes just to drag An Han along.
Her sister stuck out her tongue.
“Let’s go buy clothes!” Their mother, clearly satisfied, pulled her sister outside. “We’ll be back in about half an hour.”
“Oh…”
An Han sighed in despair. At least she had delayed the visit to the relatives.
The longer she delayed, the shorter the time she’d have to spend at her grandfather’s.
“Ugh~”
She sighed as she went upstairs. “What am I going to do later~”
Being surrounded by relatives asking about romantic matters was already embarrassing enough. Most people had probably experienced this.
But she had just become a girl. Appearing in front of relatives as a girl for the first time… her residual male mentality made it impossible to openly talk about liking a boy.
Even though she knew she liked Su Peng, it still felt a bit like she was “doing gay stuff” with him. After all, she hadn’t been a girl for long.
“I’m so doomed.”
An Han shuffled back to her room like a zombie, putting on leggings, shorts, and finally a short skirt.
Though a bit bulky, it was winter, so it was acceptable.
