Chapter 235 232. Early Morning [12/17]
Every day, breakfast began with her mother’s calls.
“Get up and eat! It’s already past eight!”
“After breakfast, you still have homework! How much of your winter homework have you done?”
Early in the morning, her mother knocked on the door. An Han tried turning the doorknob, only to find it unlocked. She pushed the door open and, seeing the three inside whom she had startled awake, quickly ignored her father and An Han, striding forward: “Little sister, it’s time to get up!”
“That’s not fair~ You never wake me up, sis.”
Still half-asleep, An Han suddenly woke up, grabbing her sister’s head and covering her mouth.
What is she saying!
It’s only the second day! Can we take it slow!
She glared at her sister with a fierce look, then, prompted by her mother’s glance, realized something and lowered her eyes to her chest.
Quickly, she ducked under the covers and feigned nonchalance: “Mom, let me sleep for another hour. Please take my sister out and don’t disturb me.”
“Pay more attention, will you?” her mother rolled her eyes. “Always fussing around, not a proper shape to you.”
“Got it, got it~”
An Han wanted to ask her mother when she could get her father out of her room. It wasn’t that she disliked him—back when she was still a boy, she didn’t mind sharing a bed with her father—but now it was inconvenient to sleep in the same room.
Her father, meanwhile, was clearly awake, turning around and making noises.
She couldn’t put it too bluntly.
Her mother noticed the situation as well. Just as she was about to take her sister away, she turned back and said, “Tonight, you and your sister can sleep in my room.”
“Well… that works.”
An Han felt that sleeping on the floor in her mother’s room was far better than being on edge sharing a room with her father.
After her mother and sister left, she wearily lay back down.
Yesterday’s test had made her father vaguely aware of her feminine behaviors. By taking it step by step, she could let him gradually accept it… Yesterday she could have controlled her feminine actions, but she hadn’t.
The problem now was that her chest might have been noticed in advance.
She turned over anxiously, already having trouble falling back asleep.
A strategic retreat… she would bring up her father first; then he wouldn’t focus on her chest.
“Dad, how long are you going to argue with Mom?”
Her father was clearly awake but fell silent when she mentioned it.
“Big men admitting a mistake is no big deal! You’re making it so my sister and I can’t even sleep peacefully,” An Han muttered. “You’re not really getting a divorce, right?”
“No,” her father finally spoke.
“Then just admit it and soften a bit.”
An Han sighed: “Pride is a curse, both of you are the same.”
“What do you think about your parents?”
“Zero dream Dad, shirt cold, long zero fin guilt, Wu Dad, my mistake~”
She immediately backed down, burrowing deeper under the covers, only leaving her eyes visible. Under the covers, she secretly started removing her clothes and putting on her chest binder.
Outside, the sounds of neighbors talking, distant cars, and occasional calls from breakfast vendors filled the morning. An Han wasn’t worried about her subtle movements making noise; her main concern was that her father might suddenly look her way.
“But your sister is still young. If you argue and sulk with Mom, it could affect her mental health.”
“I know that.”
Her father, a university-educated man from the ’90s, had some awareness of psychological health—not like rigid parents who ignored it entirely.
He paused, then asked: “I want to ask about your mental health. You weren’t like this last year. Why are you… acting so feminine this year?”
“Dad, we’re talking about your argument! Don’t change the subject!”
Having finished putting on her binder and pulled a sweater over it, she stood up: “I’ll go wash my face first.”
Her father’s gaze fell on her chest, leaving him even more confused. An Han, sensitive to his gaze, felt a sense of mischief and quietly hummed to herself: “Solve your argument soon, don’t really get a divorce.”
If her parents actually divorced and she chose to live with her mother, then her father wouldn’t have any say over her gender anymore?
Suddenly, An Han had that thought, then realized she was already an adult. Once grown, no one could dictate her choices.
After washing up, she stretched lazily and headed downstairs.
“Mom, what’s for breakfast?”
“Bought you two egg burgers. Don’t you love them?” Her mother looked up at her from the stairs, a little concerned. “Didn’t take off your makeup last night?”
“Mom! I want some too!”
Both ignored her sister’s fussing.
“Just for a few days, you’ll manage.”
An Han slowly walked down and found two egg burgers and a bowl of freshly boiled raw milk at her usual seat.
“Girls don’t purposely make themselves look bad.”
She picked the thin film off the milk, wrapped it around her chopsticks, and ate it in one bite. The milk, still hot, made her blow softly and grimace, then she grabbed an egg burger—but it burned her hand too.
Since becoming a girl, her skin felt more delicate and sensitive, making her more cautious of pain.
“Be careful,” her mother said, smiling.
An Han placed two napkins underneath, carefully taking small bites of her breakfast. She had to admit, hometown food was just better. Even common egg burgers from around the country tasted better here.
From the stairs came her father’s footsteps, and she felt his gaze on her, watching her tiny, hamster-like eating style.
Normally, she should have switched to a more masculine, confident manner, or at least stopped her feminine way of eating.
But if her father couldn’t even accept her slightly girlish behavior, then telling him about becoming a girl was out of the question.
Though the connection was weak, seeing her father in person was rare, so she still wanted reassurance.
“An Han, we’ll go out at noon.”
“Huh?” She looked at her father, now dressed neatly again in his classic British-style attire.
“One of my classmates’ daughters studying abroad has returned. I want to introduce you. She’s very pretty and has a nice personality—you might like her.”
“This… isn’t appropriate, right?” An Han’s face flushed. She had just avoided being set up by her mother and now her father wanted to match her with someone too?
Do you really think I need this?
“If you weren’t so restrained, with my system, I could have hooked up with every handsome guy in class! Maybe even some girls who like girls!”
Her father smiled: “She’s already seen your photo and liked it.”
“And me?” An Han looked at her mother.
Her mother nodded, and she sighed: “Fine, okay then.”
