Chapter 245 242. Cousins

Feb 05, 2026 1,226 words

An Han never had any special expectations for the New Year and actually hated the noise from fireworks and firecrackers. Unfortunately, this small city didn’t have any regulations banning them, so as soon as the holiday season started, little kids were already running around causing trouble with firecrackers—throwing them into windows, under people’s feet, even blowing up soda cans or manholes…

The things she had once done herself were now repeating in these kids’ behavior.

“Sis! It’s New Year!”

“It’s only New Year’s Eve today, so not quite yet.”

An Han moved a small stool to sit in front of her house, watching her little sister run around playing with all kinds of firecrackers. She couldn’t help but warn her, “Be careful, don’t fall.”

“I know!”

She rested her chin in her hands, helplessly watching her sister run off, then glanced at her father leaning against the doorframe.

Her father was getting more and more accustomed to having a daughter around, though he always felt it was a bit embarrassing and never introduced An Han to his friends.

“An Han, I bought you two new outfits for the New Year.”

“I have so many clothes I can’t even wear them all…”

“A girl should have plenty of clothes! Wearing only two or three sets like before doesn’t look like a proper girl,” her father said, frowning at her. “Go upstairs and try them on. If they don’t fit, I’ll take them back.”

Although embarrassed, An Han appreciated her father’s care. She could only nod helplessly, lean against the wall, and pull out her phone to check the class and family chat groups for red envelopes.

“Dad, where’s my New Year money this year?” she suddenly remembered.

“Still expecting red envelopes at twenty-two?” her father grumbled, but he reached into his pocket and handed her a pre-prepared envelope. “Here, count it yourself.”

“Thanks, Dad! You’re so good to me!” An Han eagerly opened the envelope and carefully counted the money—two thousand in total!

“Your mother’s one thousand is included in there.”

“That’s way more than before!”

Last year, her New Year money didn’t even reach five hundred—her parents gave a few hundred, her grandparents a hundred or two, and aunts and uncles gave small symbolic amounts.

“Girls have more things to spend on,” her father explained.

Her usual teenage melancholy instantly vanished, replaced by joy. She put all the money back into the envelope, planning to deposit it in her bank account later.

Just as she was enjoying herself, she suddenly noticed a stylish girl at the end of the alley.

“Lin Yue!” An Han waved excitedly. “Want to go shopping?”

Lately, she and Lin Yue often went out together. Since it was the holiday season, they had time off, and family matters didn’t concern them. After a few outings, An Han had shifted in Lin Yue’s eyes from a potential date to a true male best friend.

But then she saw Lin Fan approaching.

Her face darkened. Every time she went out, Lin Fan almost always came along, forcing her to repeatedly insist she was male. Yet Lin Fan seemed determined otherwise.

The guy, acting like a sycophant, ran ahead of his cousin, holding two bags of snacks and a milk tea. “Xiao Han! Just passing by, got you some food!”

“Salted crispy chicken and egg burgers—take them, I need to go.”

“I'm male!” she snapped at Lin Fan, glaring furiously. “Do you have to be so gay about this?!”

“No way, you’re male,” Lin Fan laughed. “I’ll believe it when you pull it out.”

“Ask Lin Yue!”

“But you always tell Lin Yue you’re female.”

“……”

These cousins were so frustrating. One refused to believe she was male, the other was convinced she was male… couldn’t they just talk and get their stories straight?

“Even if I were a girl, I wouldn’t like you, okay?” An Han glared at him again.

“See? You admitted it.”

Lin Yue ran up to them, panting, her eyes full of admiration for An Han. Over time, she realized An Han not only had a bigger chest, but better legs and a slimmer waist—completely outclassing her.

“You’re so pretty every day~” Lin Yue exclaimed. “My cousin is totally infatuated with you! Now I see he likes guys.”

“Lin Yue! Look at her—where does she look like a guy?” Lin Fan retorted.

“An Han is male!”

“Who has a bigger chest than you as a guy?”

“Vulgar!”

The noisy scene gave An Han a headache. She covered her head, but Lin Yue grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the alley, huffing. “Don’t pay attention to him, he’s annoying!”

“But I really am a girl!” she stumbled while being pulled, trying to defend herself. “What your brother said isn’t wrong.”

“You let him bribe you?”

“No!”

Lin Yue glanced back cautiously. Seeing they had left Lin Fan behind, she leaned close and whispered, “How do you keep your figure?”

An Han had no idea—her body was boosted by stats. Their heights were similar, and she subconsciously glanced at Lin Yue, noticing that her chest seemed slightly bigger overnight.

Catching her gaze, Lin Yue proudly puffed her chest. “I used padding!”

“……”

“If you think I’m male, why are you comparing this…” An Han groaned.

“You’re not really a girl, are you?”

Spending more time together had already made Lin Yue doubt her earlier assumption.

“Yeah, I tell your brother I’m male just to avoid his pestering.”

Lin Yue pouted. “It’s fine, I don’t care. I just want to know how you maintain your legs and waist…”

“Uh… just add some stats.”

“Huh?”

Just as they were about to leave the alley, her little sister ran over and threw herself into An Han’s arms. “Sis! I want to play too!”

But then their mother’s roar came from behind: “An Siqi! Come here!”

Her little sister trembled, peeking out from An Han’s arms at their mother, who looked nothing like her usual elegant self. Instead, she resembled a fearsome demon from hell: “Where were you doing your homework this morning?!”

“I’m going out with my sister!”

Her mother stormed forward, glaring viciously at Lin Fan, who flinched and awkwardly stepped aside.

Reaching An Han, her mother roughly grabbed her daughter’s ear, but then softened into a gentle smile. “Will you be back for lunch?”

She was happy to see An Han making friends with other girls.

“Yes, around eleven or twelve.”

After watching her sister being dragged away while whining, Lin Yue shivered and whispered, “Your mom is so scary…”

“By the way, what about Lin Fan?”

She turned and saw Lin Fan trailing behind, pale as a sheet.
