Chapter 158 156. The Competition
“Dong Ming! About the money you said you could lend earlier…”
As soon as class ended, An Han darted over to Wu Dongming’s seat. She first cautiously glanced at Su Peng, who was sitting not far away, then bent down and asked in a low voice, “How much can you lend me?”
“Three hundred?”
“That’s fine! That’s already quite a lot!”
Wu Dongming could smell the faint, elegant girlish scent as An Han leaned close. He couldn’t help leaning back to put some distance between them and asked, “Then when can you pay it back?”
“Well… within this semester?”
“Then forget it. My monthly allowance is barely over a thousand. If I lend you three hundred, am I supposed to starve at the end of the month?”
The joy on An Han’s face instantly disappeared.
She had originally planned to find a part-time job to pay the money back, but her class schedule was packed. She could only work on weekends, so repayment would have to be slow and gradual.
Technically, she could work first and rent later, but that would still be at least a month away.
She sighed dejectedly and turned to look at her other friends.
Chen Junjie really did seem to be dating now, borrowing money from Long Xing every day just to eat. Long Xing himself had been borrowed down to barely having enough for meals.
Wang Sheng liked buying game skins. Every month, as soon as he got his allowance, he’d spend everything except his food money, saving the rest to buy knives and gloves. He didn’t have much cash on hand either.
As for Wang Yu…
An Han recalled his cold face and decided it was better not to provoke trouble. She already hated borrowing money—it felt embarrassing. Borrowing from her roommate Wu Dongming was something she was used to, but asking someone she wasn’t close to, and was even a bit afraid of, like Wang Yu, was out of the question.
For the same reason, she also felt awkward borrowing money from Lin Yi or An Kexin.
“I wonder if Lin Yi still has any ways to make money… That boss last time was pretty generous, but I wasted a lot of what I earned on food and drinks.”
An Han deeply regretted her habit of spending money so freely.
Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed Chen Junjie beside her, holding his phone and tapping rapidly with his thumb.
“Your girlfriend?” She immediately leaned in to sneak a peek.
Chen Junjie showed no embarrassment at all and openly let An Han see his chat history.
“Oh! Wenwen~ Calling her so affectionately~” An Han glanced briefly and immediately put on a teasing smile. “Doesn’t that feel cringey to you?”
“Heh.” Chen Junjie’s cold laugh was full of contempt for single people.
It felt like An Han had just been stabbed in the heart. After a pause, she asked, “What does she look like? Which class? Is she pretty?”
Long Xing also leaned over to join the fun. “Big? Long legs? What kind of girl is she?”
Their questions fully satisfied Chen Junjie’s vanity. He pulled up a photo from his album and showed them his girlfriend’s picture.
In the photo was a girl with coffee-colored long wavy hair, heavy makeup, wearing a black short-sleeved top and jacket. Both pieces were very small, revealing a slim, fair waist and abdomen. She wore a black short skirt with fishnet stockings. She was tall and slender, and very full up top.
An Han felt that this type of girl looked overly mature, and the outfit made her seem like someone who frequented nightclubs.
If it were her, no matter how pretty the girl was, she still wouldn’t like such heavy makeup.
“She’s pretty.” An Han didn’t voice her true thoughts.
And her chest is freaking huge!
She’d probably need to increase her physique stats at least two more times to reach that girl’s bust size.
“If she weren’t pretty, would I even look at her?” Chen Junjie said smugly as he closed the album. His self-satisfied expression made An Han grind her teeth.
If it weren’t for the system screwing me over…
If the system’s physique stats were height or abs and pecs, would she be worrying about not having a girlfriend?
Right now, she only hoped she wouldn’t end up becoming someone else’s girlfriend.
An Han slumped listlessly onto her desk, waiting for this useless class to end.
“I feel like I’ve seen your girlfriend somewhere before,” Long Xing continued chatting with Chen Junjie.
“She’s from our school. It’s normal that you’ve seen her.”
He paused and scratched his head. “A while ago, I went drinking at a bar with the fitness club. I saw her drinking with several guys.”
“……”
Chen Junjie fell silent for a moment.
“I don’t think I saw you there back then?”
“I probably went to the bathroom. You just didn’t see me,” he replied, forcing a smile.
An Han immediately perked up and mocked him, “You didn’t get cuckolded, did you?”
“Get the hell out!”
“Why are you getting so fierce…” An Han slumped back down again.
She wondered if the system would ever give out a cash reward task.
But this system probably wasn’t that crude. Even when rewards involved money before, it was usually houses, cars, or lottery tickets—and right now she only needed a little over a thousand.
Who the hell invented security deposits anyway?!
If not for the deposit, with the money she had, she could afford rent and just cut back on food quality. But with the deposit added, renting was completely impossible.
“An Han,” Chen Junjie called out.
“What?” An Han tilted her head slightly, revealing one eye from where her face was buried in her arms.
“You borrowed money earlier because you want to move out, right?”
Long Xing also leaned over. “Xiao Han borrowed money from me too.”
“Yeah. Didn’t I say it a long time ago? I’m just short on cash. Once I have it, I’ll go look at apartments.”
An Han noticed Wang Sheng looking at her with a surprised, confused expression. She suddenly felt a bit guilty and lowered her voice. “So… do you guys know any nearby part-time jobs that pay daily? I want to save up and move out.”
“If I take first place in my competition, I’ll give you the prize money to rent a place,” Wang Sheng said almost without hesitation. “It’s next week. First place gets over two thousand, plus a mouse and keyboard. If it’s still not enough, I’ll sell them on Xianyu.”
“Wang Sheng~ We’ll be brothers forever!”
An Han was deeply moved—but the next second, she froze.
Wait! Didn’t the CS:GO competition get canceled because there was no sponsorship?!
How did the champion suddenly get over two thousand per person now?!
She looked at Wang Sheng in confusion. “Didn’t Wang Yu say it couldn’t be held?”
“He suddenly said it could be,” Wang Sheng replied shyly. “I don’t know why either. You’d have to ask him.”
Did Wang Yu find a sponsor who was interested in this event?
An Han muttered to herself, feeling like things weren’t that simple.
Could it be that after hearing her complaints, Su Peng just went and personally sponsored the competition?
Probably not… After all, this was Wang Sheng’s competition. At most, she just wanted Wang Sheng to be able to participate. And after the task failed, whether the competition happened or not didn’t really matter to her anymore.
She had already told Su Peng that. There was no reason for him to run a competition just to make her happy.
“So…” An Han suddenly wanted to curse, but held it in and forced a smile. “Don’t ditch me once you get the prize money.”
Then what right did the system have to declare the task a failure so quickly?!
My PS5…
———
I stayed up until five last night… Tea Team and Little Elephant completely wrecked my brain.
Lately I’ve been watching matches a lot. After the season ends, I’m planning to get laser eye surgery. Wearing glasses all the time is flattening my nose bridge~
