Chapter 336 333. Part-Time Job

Apr 03, 2026 1,448 words

“When will the scholarship be paid out~”

During class, An Han lay listlessly on the desk, sighing with a gloomy expression.

She had been poor before, but Su Peng had always been there to back her up, so she never really felt any sense of crisis. But now Su Peng was broke too—and he was eating and drinking at her expense.

Before, if she ran out of money, she could just ask her father for more. But after angering him yesterday, she didn’t have the courage to ask again.

Her father would even be coming to the school this weekend, and she would have to see him off when he left the country… She felt anxious, afraid that if her parents discovered she and Su Peng were practically half-living together, they would firmly oppose their relationship.

“It’s fine. I’ll go work at the cafeteria later,” Su Peng said calmly, completely unpanicked. “At noon I’ll move those shoes and figurines of mine to the rental place. If we really run out of money, I’ll just sell a couple.”

“Didn’t you say we should avoid using that money if possible…”

Su Peng pouted. “We can’t just starve to death, can we?”

“I’m just worried you’ll get fired from the cafeteria in a couple of days. The scholarship should be coming soon anyway. We can just spend less for now.”

He quickly understood what An Han meant. The faint smile on his face disappeared, and he said seriously, “Unless they lower their heads first, I’m not apologizing this time. We need to be ready for a long fight.”

“Why make things so tense…”

Su Peng’s earlier blind date had been arranged by his parents, even though he had no intention of dating or getting married at the time.

Going abroad was also something his parents had decided for him. But he felt that even if it were a top university overseas, it would just be for show and for networking with the children of international elites—and he didn’t like doing that kind of thing.

“It’s not like I can’t support myself. If I give in now, they’ll get even more excessive in the future.”

An Han didn’t really understand Su Peng’s thinking. Her own parents sometimes showed a strong sense of control too, but most of the time they only forbade her from doing certain things rather than forcing her to do things she didn’t want to do… She didn’t really resent their occasional controlling tendencies.

Still, she supported Su Peng’s decision.

“Alright then.”

Not only because of the system task, but also because Su Peng had fallen out with his family for her sake.

“Then I want to find a part-time job too.”

“You?” Su Peng sighed helplessly. “If you take a part-time job, you’ll probably fail your finals.”

An Han glared at him. “How could that happen!”

She sounded confident at first, but then she glanced around guiltily before adding, “At worst you can let me copy enough answers to pass, right?”

Su Peng rested his chin on one hand, looking resigned. “You’d better just study yourself.”

“I don’t like studying this stuff…”

They didn’t linger on the topic for long. Su Peng turned around and scanned the classroom.

He wanted to find a classmate who had worked in the cafeteria before to ask about it. Even if he wanted to take a part-time job, he had no idea where they were hiring.

“Didn’t Dong Ming deliver food for the cafeteria in his freshman year?” he asked An Han.

“He did. Slow as hell—and he even ate my delivery food.”

An Han complained angrily, “If he weren’t my good friend, I would’ve reported him long ago!”

“That’s because you used to mess with him all the time.”

Having her old mindset exposed in a single sentence, she calmly lowered her head and took out her phone, opening Wu Dongming’s chat window.

“I’ll ask him about the cafeteria part-time job.”

After class ended at noon, An Han and Su Peng found Wu Dongming waiting for them in the corridor.

Facing An Han again, Wu Dongming still looked a little nervous and awkward.

He raised his head and looked at the girl in front of him, dressed in a bright white outfit. This girl—his former best buddy and partner-in-crime—now had a sweet, pure appearance. She was holding onto Su Peng’s arm, radiating the unmistakable sour smell of romance.

Who could’ve imagined that the guy who used to behave worse than a dog and never did anything decent had now become a beautiful girl with a great figure—and had even hooked up with his roommate.

For all he knew, the two of them had probably already done all sorts of unspeakable things.

His expression stiffened for a moment. Wu Dongming nodded at the couple as a greeting, then headed straight toward the stairs.

“I asked my old boss. She said they just happen to be short-staffed right now. I’ll take you over.”

“Thanks, man.”

“Nice! You’re efficient!” An Han said with a grin as she followed behind him. “I’ll treat you to lunch later!”

“I’m on a diet lately.”

“What diet? I’ll treat you to that new mala hotpot stall in the cafeteria!”

Wu Dongming frowned, wanting to refuse. But then he remembered the oily, spicy flavor of that place. After dieting for so long without much oil or rich food, his mouth immediately started craving it.

“I went there with Su Peng once,” An Han added. “It’s a bit spicy, but really good with rice.”

He let out a heavy sigh. “Fine.”

Just when his diet had started to show results, An Han was about to ruin it… Friends really were the biggest obstacle on the road to losing weight.

The three of them entered the school cafeteria. An Han found a seat and sat down first, while Wu Dongming took Su Peng to apply for the job.

She rested her chin on both hands and leaned on the table, staring at their backs with worry in her heart.

If Su Peng was delivering food, that was fine. But if he ended up working in the kitchen… that would be terrifying.

After nearly half an hour, the once-crowded cafeteria had thinned out a lot. Just as An Han was starting to get restless, Wu Dongming came walking back alone from a corner of the cafeteria.

“How did it go?” she immediately stood up and asked.

“He’s already started.”

Wu Dongming pointed toward a fast-food window nearby.

“He’s helping deliver orders for that shop.”

“Delivering food? That’s good.”

As long as it wasn’t kitchen work. Otherwise Su Peng might get fired in a couple of days with how clumsy he could be.

Looking toward the storefront, An Han quickly spotted a tall figure over 1.8 meters wearing a mask, busy packing takeaway boxes at the window.

Even though she couldn’t see his face, she recognized Su Peng instantly.

He still looked a little unaccustomed to the work, moving stiffly and somewhat frantically.

Looks like she’d have to order from that shop more often in the future—maybe she’d run into Su Peng while he was working.

“Guess it counts as experiencing real life?”

An Han muttered to herself. Then suddenly she approached Wu Dongming with a smile, instinctively trying to sling an arm over his shoulder—only for him to quickly step back and dodge.

She didn’t mind and cheerfully asked, “So shall we go eat mala hotpot?”

“Maybe we shouldn’t…”

Wu Dongming suddenly became awkward again. Being alone with a pretty girl made him extremely nervous, and his cheeks even flushed slightly.

“Come on, let’s go! What are you shy about?”

An Han enthusiastically moved closer, while Wu Dongming kept retreating step by step until he bumped into a table and chair and finally stopped.

Seeing his expression like he’d just seen a ghost, An Han didn’t know what to say. She pouted in boredom, then stopped teasing him and turned toward the mala hotpot stall.

“Alright, I won’t mess with you anymore. Let’s eat.”
