Chapter 294 291. Wife!

Mar 31, 2026 1,490 words

In the afternoon, An Han followed her parents to Ren Chi’s office to handle the procedures for changing her student registration.

A student registration change wasn’t something that could be completed in just a day or two, but with Ren Chi’s help, all the required documents had already been prepared and filled out. What remained now was simply to wait.

When everything was temporarily settled, her parents visibly relaxed. But An Han still looked dejected, walking out of the school gate with her head lowered as she followed behind them.

When they arrived at the car her father had rented, her mother turned back and reminded her,

“You start classes tomorrow, right? Study seriously. Don’t let your mind be full of playing around all the time.”

“We’re planning to take your sister traveling for a couple of days. She doesn’t report in until the day after tomorrow.”

“Eat more fruits and vegetables usually. It’s good for your health. And when you have time, learn some makeup. Don’t be lazy about using skincare products either. Otherwise when you get older and don’t look good anymore, you’ll regret it.”

An Han responded with soft nasal sounds.

Her father also added reminders from the side:

“Remember not to bring classmates to your rented apartment, especially Su Peng!”

“And don’t let anyone stay overnight. Who knows what kind of thoughts they might have.”

“Be careful about safety. Buy a camera and hang it at the door. If someone knocks, check the monitor first.”

Their concerns were clearly very different.

Her little sister joined the fun and said, “When summer vacation comes, bring a little baby back for me to play with!”

“No!”

Her parents glared at her sister at the same time, scaring the girl pale and silent.

An Han suspected the kid was deliberately trying to worsen their father’s impression of Su Peng.

It was just a workbook—was it really necessary?

“Since you’re living alone now, pay attention to things and be careful. If you have any difficulties, go to your counselor. He seems like a good person.”

“Mm-hm.”

After perfunctorily responding to her parents, An Han watched them get into the car. The vehicle started and gradually disappeared from her sight.

Now she would be living alone again.

She wondered when Su Peng would arrive at school.

An Han had been looking forward to meeting him ever since yesterday, but now it was already the afternoon of registration day and she still hadn’t seen any sign of him.

Ever since meeting Wu Dongming, she had inexplicably developed an urgent desire to see Su Peng and complain to him about her grievances.

Clearly she hadn’t done anything wrong, yet a friend she’d known for years had grown increasingly distant from her…

An Han had already realized this problem last semester, but at that time her body had been undergoing drastic changes, and by the end of the term she had completely become female. She hadn’t had the energy—physically or mentally—to care about it.

Now that things had stabilized, when she looked back, she realized she had already lost a close friend.

And Chen Junjie… that lowered affection level perhaps meant he couldn’t accept An Han’s current gender either.

Long Ge’s affection toward her had always been quite high, but the boat of friendship had already capsized.

Then there were her high school classmates Shi Yi and Chen Zhiyong, the classmates who had fought alongside her during the college entrance exams…

An Han walked absentmindedly along the sidewalk outside the school. One by one, students reporting to school passed by her with their luggage, moving away toward the gate behind her.

She looked around but couldn’t find anyone walking alongside her.

She realized that it had become harder and harder for her to control the emotions in her mind.

In the past, even if she occasionally felt depressed or unhappy, she could quickly distract herself with other things.

But now the emotions in her brain kept magnifying themselves. Something small would make her imagine things like being abandoned by her parents or disliked by Su Peng…

The same thing had happened when she met Lin Yue during that blind date.

“Why am I getting so sensitive…”

An Han muttered to herself, glancing at the cars passing by on the street, trying to distract herself by memorizing license plate numbers.

But it didn’t work.

Her mind was still filled with messy thoughts. It was clearly still afternoon, the sun shining brightly, yet she had already entered that late-night melancholy mood.

She thought she had gotten used to living as a woman, but most of the relationships she had built when she was still a man had either been forcibly cut off or changed in nature.

Perhaps she would make more friends in the future, but those goofy friends from the past would never come back.

An Han returned to the residential complex where her rented apartment was located and arrived in front of the apartment building.

She stepped onto the stairs and lifted her head.

The gloomy, melancholic expression on her face suddenly froze.

That person stood there just like before—still with that tall figure, still with that gentle smile, still with those eyes that seemed able to reflect her image.

“An Han!”

His voice was warm and calm, carrying longing and affection for her.

“Su Peng… when did you get here?”

An Han froze in place, staring blankly at Su Peng’s face. The dark emotions she had just felt were suddenly illuminated by sunlight, like dust blown away by the wind.

She unconsciously smiled and quickened her pace, taking two steps at a time up the stairs until she reached his side.

She raised her hand, wanting to hug that strong, sturdy arm, but suddenly felt shy. Her lifted hand awkwardly moved upward instead, brushing the hair in front of her eyes.

Her cheeks burned red, and she smiled sweetly and shyly.

“Why didn’t you tell me before coming to my place?”

“I wanted to give you a surprise.”

After renting the apartment, An Han had immediately sent him the location.

Su Peng rubbed her small head and asked with some concern,

“You didn’t look like you were in a good mood just now.”

“No way! I’m very happy!”

An Han quickly opened the door and invited Su Peng inside. Her voice became excited and high-pitched.

“Look at my new home! Two bedrooms and a living room! It’s huge! I’m living here alone!”

She excitedly showed off her new place.

“There’s a super big TV! A super big sofa! The fridge, water heater, and air conditioner are all here! And there’s a kitchen! If we buy a pot we can cook!”

“Next time I’ll seriously cook for you and show off my skills!”

Looking at her energetic and lively appearance, Su Peng smiled with great pleasure. The slight pressure he’d felt at home these past days completely vanished, and his body even felt lighter.

Before seeing An Han, his mind had been filled with strange, somewhat explicit thoughts.

But the moment he saw her, all those thoughts disappeared, leaving only the face with the faint dimples—so cute it could heal people’s hearts.

“Come in already! Why are you standing at the door?”

An Han crouched down and placed a pair of cotton slippers at the entrance.

“You can just leave your shoes outside. There’s a shoe rack there.”

“What were you thinking about just now? You looked like you were about to cry.”

Su Peng stepped out of his sneakers by pressing on the heel and walked inside.

“I wasn’t!”

“Tell me.”

“It’s nothing…”

An Han lifted her head, but when she saw those serious, slightly forceful eyes, she felt guilty. Lowering her head, she muttered,

“It’s just that Wu Dongming is ignoring me. When I went to the dorm earlier, he didn’t even greet me when he saw me.”

That’s it?

Su Peng almost blurted out a complaint but quickly swallowed the words. He closed the door behind him and nodded with a look of agreement.

“Then he’s really being excessive.”

Seeing his indignant expression, An Han suddenly burst into laughter.

“How is that excessive? It’s just a small thing. I was the one overthinking.”

“I’ll go back to the dorm later and beat him up. How dare he ignore my wife!”

“Maybe don’t beat him…”

Then she suddenly reacted.

“Wait—who’s your wife?!”
