Chapter 185 183. Reunion

Jan 16, 2026 1,438 words

An Han hopped along through the maze-like paths of the urban village, carefully avoiding the rain. Whenever she came across an open area without cover, she would suddenly speed up and dash through.

Stopping and starting along the way, she ate dinner at a Shaxian Snacks place in the village. Roughly twenty minutes later, she finally returned to the apartment building.

She swiped her key to open the access door on the first floor, brushed the raindrops off her shoulders with an unhappy expression, yawned, and walked into the building.

So cold~

After getting rained on, someone who was already afraid of the cold like her was now shivering even more. She broke into a light run, hopping as she went up the stairs, deliberately making exaggerated movements in an attempt to warm herself up.

“Home~ home~” An Han muttered softly, bouncing like a little rabbit.

However, after climbing less than two floors, her already pale complexion lost even more color.

She stopped in her tracks, lowered her head to look at her feet, and murmured to herself, “I didn’t have any contact with Su Peng, did I? And I didn’t even wear women’s clothes… so why can’t I control it again…”

An Han patted her cheeks with both hands, cleared her throat lightly, then continued upstairs with steady steps and a calm expression.

It was like someone who was used to walking pigeon-toed: when reminded, they could deliberately correct their posture and walk normally, but the moment they stopped consciously adjusting, the habit would return.

And maintaining that kind of deliberate correction was exhausting. One had to constantly monitor themselves, always adjusting back to a “normal” state.

Reaching the corridor on the fifth floor, she passed room 502 and subconsciously turned her head to glance at the door.

That guy Su Peng had rented this room, yet he’d never really come by.

Ren Chi had said he’d taken sick leave, and that he’d been ill for several days without getting better… As a friend, maybe she should check on him. Just a quick message online would do.

Thinking this, she continued to her own room. Just as she opened the door to go inside, she suddenly tilted her head slightly.

“Hm?”

An Han strained her ears to listen to the sounds from the neighboring room. Just now, she seemed to have heard some faint footsteps, but now there was nothing.

Not bothering to think too much, she kicked the door next to hers. “You there or not?!”

“Coming, coming.”

Su Peng’s voice indeed came from inside. After a brief wait, the door opened, and his slightly fatigued face appeared before An Han.

For some reason, her heart, which had been calm or even low, suddenly surged upward.

An Han looked up at him, stunned for a moment, before asking in a loud, full voice, “I heard you were sick? What’s going on?!”

Without waiting for Su Peng to answer, she kicked the half-open door fully open and strode inside. “I’ve never been in your room before—pretty much the same as mine~”

“Oh right, I won something! Did you hear? An iPhone 13!” An Han suddenly remembered and turned back, stuffing her phone into Su Peng’s hand. She planted her hands on her hips, lifted her chin so high her nose was practically in the sky, and said proudly, “Pretty good, right! It sells for over ten thousand on the official site—I got it for twenty bucks!”

“Did the doctor say you’re better yet?”

“You have no idea! There were two drunks downstairs last night! They were making such a racket in the middle of the night that I couldn’t sleep!”

She had no idea that she was being unusually talkative, not even leaving Su Peng any room to respond.

Su Peng stared at her blankly. In his memory, he’d never seen this side of her before.

Lively, cute, with a hint of airheadedness.

“You know? Wang Sheng actually seems to be dating now, and I was the one who set it up! If it weren’t for me helping him find someone—”

“Hold on, hold on.” Su Peng cut her off helplessly yet gently, reaching out to rub her head. “Sit down first and talk slowly.”

An Han froze when she met his gaze, only then realizing that she seemed a bit too excited.

Why did she completely lose control of her urge to talk the moment she saw Su Peng?!

That gentle, warm hand lightly rubbing her head made her squint slightly, enjoying it for two seconds—then she immediately changed her expression, slapped his hand away, and plopped down onto a nearby chair, crossing her legs.

The toughness she’d just put on crumbled the moment her eyes met Su Peng’s again. An Han lowered her head, annoyed at her own behavior.

She shouldn’t have knocked!

Su Peng sat on the bed, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his thighs, looking at An Han’s face. “Start from the beginning.”

“Uh… I won something. The phone’s with you.”

“Holy crap! How can your luck be this good?!” Even though he’d already heard about it, Su Peng still put on an extremely exaggerated expression of shock and excitement. “Aren’t you just ridiculously lucky?”

“Hehe, not really~” An Han smiled with her eyes curved. “My luck is usually pretty average.”

She didn’t know whether the joy came from sharing the news of her win, or from watching Su Peng’s over-the-top performance.

Su Peng stretched out his hand, lowered his head, and stared at his palm with great solemnity. “I’ve decided—this hand will absolutely not be washed for the rest of the week. It just touched the head of a lucky god!”

“That’s a bit too much, isn’t it?”

An Han could barely hold back her laughter. Her shoulders trembled slightly, the soft curve beneath her eyes especially clear.

She tried to get serious again and coughed forcefully to break the atmosphere. “So what illness is it? How long has it been?”

“Influenza. The contagious kind.” Su Peng said helplessly. “High fever, sore throat, no strength at all.”

“I thought it was just a normal fever before. I went to the hospital this afternoon and got some medicine.”

An Han couldn’t really tell how sick Su Peng looked. At most, he seemed tired—but for a college student, that kind of fatigue was probably just from staying up late again.

“Mm… then I’ll head off, okay? It’s contagious~”

She stood up as if to leave, but when she reached the door, she turned back and asked, “Why didn’t you come find me to hang out these past few days?”

Su Peng, who had just been joking around, instantly panicked. The interrogative tone was far too obvious.

“I was sick, you know. I had no energy. And you said you were only free on weekends… I mean, sometimes when I tried to find you, you also seemed busy and didn’t really have time to talk…”

An Han opened the door, cutting him off.

“Where are you going?” he asked nervously.

She shouldn’t be angry, right? She wouldn’t be that petty, would she?

“Going downstairs to buy you dinner. You need to eat before taking medicine, don’t you?”

“I was just about to order takeout.”

“If you order now, you won’t eat until at least seven-thirty.”

“It’s raining outside.”

An Han casually picked up the umbrella Su Peng had tossed by the door. “You’ve got an umbrella! Dummy!”

She walked out of Su Peng’s room and gently closed the door behind her, then let out a long, exhausted sigh.

Sure enough, being around Su Peng was when she felt happiest—both physically and mentally, inside and out.

【Su Peng’s favorability +1】

Looks like Su Peng feels the same way~

An Han had thought that her intense emotions toward Su Peng were guided by the system, but now it didn’t seem quite like that…

At the very least, there was no reason for the system to deliberately make her feel down during a long period without seeing Su Peng.

“That’s terrifying…”
