Chapter 295 292. Pre-Semester Dinner Gathering

Mar 31, 2026 1,447 words

Later that evening, Long Xing came alone to the back gate of the school.

He stood there by himself in the cold wind under the shade of a tree, looking left and right, but the roommates he had arranged to meet were nowhere in sight. The loneliness and bleakness only felt stronger.

In the entire dorm, he was the only single dog left. Everyone else had already found a girlfriend. One guy had even gone a step further and found a boyfriend.

Long Xing sighed, feeling as if he had been left behind by his roommates.

Fortunately, he already had a goal to work toward!

This time, he absolutely wouldn’t miss his chance again!

Even if the person was a guy—what if they turned out to be a girl like An Han?

Lost in his thoughts, he suddenly heard someone calling from afar.

“Brother Long!”

Chen Junjie, holding his girlfriend’s hand, waved enthusiastically from a distance. With a bright smile on his face, he pulled her along as they jogged toward Long Xing.

His girlfriend was the same girl he had once complained about before—the one who used to borrow money from him. She wore nightclub-style clothes and had a very attractive figure. At the time, both Long Xing and An Han hadn’t thought highly of their relationship; it looked too much like he was being treated as an ATM. Yet after a winter vacation had passed, the two seemed far closer than before.

Watching the cheerful couple approaching him, Long Xing looked at his own empty side and felt an even deeper sense of loss.

I must find a girlfriend!

“Brother Long! This is my girlfriend! Just call her Yingying.”

The girl called Yingying acted graceful and confident. Upon meeting him, she flashed a sweet smile and extended her hand. Long Xing froze for a moment before realizing what she meant, then awkwardly shook hands with her.

Handshakes weren’t something he encountered often in daily life, and he felt somewhat uncomfortable.

“This is Brother Long, the boss of our dorm,” Chen Junjie said with a grin, slinging an arm around Long Xing’s shoulder. “Where’s Wang Sheng? And where’s An Han?”

“There—Wang Sheng.”

Long Xing looked toward the school gate. Just then, Wang Sheng walked out holding his girlfriend’s hand.

Wang Sheng’s girlfriend was someone he had added on WeChat after that embarrassing competition where he had won first place. Later they often went to internet cafés to play games together. While gaming, one day Wang Sheng simply didn’t return to the dorm overnight, and when he came back the next morning he looked so exhausted that he stayed weak for two whole days.

Ever since he got a girlfriend, he had stopped talking about becoming a professional gamer. Now he happily queued with his girlfriend every day.

His girlfriend was clearly much more introverted. Seeing several strangers, she merely nodded timidly without speaking, clutching Wang Sheng’s hand tightly.

Seeing the girl’s shyness, Long Xing gave a harmless smile and greeted her. However, she was so startled that she immediately hid behind Wang Sheng, trembling like a little white rabbit that had seen a wolf.

His face actually had well-defined features with thick brows and big eyes, but his aura was just too much like that of a dangerous person.

“Brother Long is actually really nice,” Wang Sheng comforted his girlfriend, then looked up and gave Long Xing a helpless smile. “Let me introduce you—Lin Qian. She’s just timid.”

“Mm, it’s fine.”

Long Xing was used to it. Whenever he took the subway or high-speed train, he was almost always asked to show his ID. Nearly every time he encountered police officers on the street, he ended up being the one they checked.

Now they were just waiting for An Han.

“Junjie, what’s the name of that roommate who hasn’t arrived yet?” Yingying asked curiously.

Although today was their formal introduction, she had actually seen Chen Junjie’s other two roommates from afar before. Only the last one she had never met.

“His name’s An Han.”

“What kind of person is he? I’ve never seen him.”

“A noisy lunatic who moved out to live on his own.”

The topic caught Lin Qian’s attention as well. She softly asked Wang Sheng, “I think I’ve heard you mention him before.”

“You’ve seen him. Remember when I won that competition? The one who was matchmaking for me under the stage…”

Just recalling that moment made Wang Sheng’s face turn red.

It had been too embarrassing. He had even been discussed on the forums for two days because of it—but it had also earned him a girlfriend.

“That one…” Lin Qian tried to recall, then asked blankly, “Wasn’t that a girl?”

“He just looks like a girl.”

Long Xing watched the two couples whispering closely to each other, and it felt as if an invisible hand had gripped his heart.

Then he thought about the person he liked—someone whose name he didn’t even know yet and who still hadn’t appeared. He let out a lifeless sigh.

At least once An Han arrived, he would have someone to chat with instead of feeling excluded like this.

“An Han’s here.”

Long Xing instinctively looked toward the distant street—then his face darkened.

He had only told An Han that roommates could bring their girlfriends to the dorm dinner. He had never said they could bring boyfriends too!

Now it was perfect. Seven people in total: three couples—and only he was single.

The playful girl pulled along a tall, well-built man and ran over to the group. An Han was lightly panting, a bit of sweat visible on her forehead.

“I’m here, I’m here! Where are we eating today?”

After catching her breath, she suggested, “How about Dafengshou? Or Chaoshan hotpot? Seafood buffet works too!”

“Still being picky? Just the Sichuan restaurant by the back gate,” Chen Junjie said with a pout. “Why did you bring Su Peng too?”

“He had nothing better to do, so he came to freeload.”

An Han suddenly noticed that both roommates’ girlfriends were staring at her with shocked expressions.

Yingying was the most confused. She had originally assumed Chen Junjie’s roommate was the tall, handsome guy with a gentle and friendly aura. But judging from their conversation, the playful girl wearing earmuffs and a casually wrapped white scarf was actually their roommate.

Lin Qian, who had met An Han before, was even more confused. She tugged on Wang Sheng’s sleeve and whispered, “S-she’s getting prettier and prettier! Is she a boy or a girl? And she’s still wearing women’s clothes!”

“Don’t ask me. I’m confused too…”

Wang Sheng hadn’t expected that after just one winter vacation, An Han would already be completely comfortable dressing as a girl—and even holding hands with Su Peng. The way the two occasionally looked at each other and their atmosphere together clearly made them seem like a couple.

Chen Junjie also hadn’t expected Su Peng to have already gotten together with An Han. Completely stunned, he could only secretly give Su Peng a thumbs-up.

As expected of you!

Eating the grass right under your nose so suddenly!

“Chen Junjie!” his girlfriend Yingying leaned over and whispered sharply in his ear. “Are you sure about this? You used to share a dorm with a girl?”

“… ”

An Han’s arrival threw the scene into chaos. She then looked toward Long Xing, only to see him standing alone in the corner with a resentful expression.

The most pitiful one was still Brother Long.

They hadn’t even started eating yet, but just watching the two couples whisper intimately and make small affectionate gestures had probably already filled him up.

“Alright, let’s eat first.”

Long Xing finally stepped in to stabilize the situation.

“What’s the point of standing here freezing in the wind? Let’s go. Sichuan restaurant.”

“I want seafood… Sichuan food is too spicy.”

“It’s fine. Tonight I’ll drive to the market and buy you lobster.”

Long Xing glanced at An Han and Su Peng whispering beside him and felt like he was about to lose it.

You’re really going to rub it in too, huh?
